It’s happened to all of us. We’ve been maxing and relaxing and then all of a sudden we’ve taken one toke over the line. Maybe it was the last hit in the bowl. Maybe there was a little ground up bud left on your tray and you were raised to always clean your plate! For whatever the reason may be, now your relaxation has turned to anxiety and you can’t decide what needs vacuuming more, the curtains or the cat. Not to worry. Calm is just around the corner.
First thing you do, make your way to the kitchen and take a long drink of water. Since humans are mostly giant bags of water, taking a long drink amounts to diluting yourself. Very helpful when you have cannabinoids coursing through your veins. Plus, there’s nothing quite as refreshing as water. It helps relieve fatigue, deliver oxygen throughout the body, and maintain proper blood pressure.
Next, head over to your spice rack and find the container of whole peppercorns you purchased but never used because you couldn’t figure out how to get the pepper grinder open. Take out your frustrations on the grinder by chewing on a few peppercorns. In addition to helping lessen the effects of THC, the terpene beta-caryophyllene, contained in each corn, may help with pain and inflammation. In fact, scientists are beginning to suspect that beta-caryophyllene isn’t a terpene after all, but a cannabinoid because it binds to the CB2 receptor.
No black peppercorns? No problem. Go suck on some citrus. The fast absorbing terpene limonene – found in lemons, limes and oranges – may potentially help calm those anxious feelings. Limonene is also known as a mood enhancer and a stress reliever. The latter are excellent reasons to always have a bowl of gorgeous fruit on your kitchen table or counter.
If fruit is on your grocery list, leave some room for a note at the bottom to remind yourself to take a trip to the dispensary for some CBD tincture or oil. A few drops left under the tongue may quickly help restore balance as CBD has the ability to block THC’s binding capabilities at the CB1 receptor.
The easiest way to make sure you don’t go one toke over the line is to conserve your stash. If all you have left is a bowl pack, don’t smoke it that night just to be a member of the clean bowl club. Save it knowing that your endocannabinoid system will downregulate during the night and may be far more stimulating the following morning.
